County of Ventura’s Fleet Services honored with national awards for sustainability and excellence

VENTURA, Calif. – The County of Ventura’s General Services Agency (GSA) Fleet Services has received several prestigious national awards, underscoring its leadership in sustainable fleet management. The achievements of the Fleet Services team were recognized by the County of Ventura Board of Supervisors at their regular meeting on Tuesday, September 24.

“We are beyond proud of our Fleet Services team for earning these national accolades,” stated Chair of the Board Kelly Long. “Each award reflects not just technical achievements, but the team’s genuine commitment to making a difference—for the environment, for our community, and for future generations.”

The Awards and Recognitions received are the following:

  • Leading Government Fleet: Ventura County earned the #14 spot as a Leading Government Fleet for 2024, recognized by Government Fleet Magazine and the American Public Works Association (APWA). This honor highlights Fleet Services’ innovative approaches, including over $1.5 million in cost savings through Lean Six Sigma principles over the past five years.
  • Best Public Fleet in the Americas: Ranked #25 in the 100 Best Fleets in the Americas by the National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA). This recognition demonstrates the County’s commitment to excellence in fleet management on a continental scale.

In 2023, GSA’s Fleet Services Division was also recognized by NAFA as the nation’s top Green Garage and ranked #10 in the nation among Green Fleets by NAFA.

Deputy Director Christopher Melton expressed his pride, saying, “I couldn’t be more humbled and prouder of the team at GSA-Fleet Services. The amount of ingenuity and professionalism within this team is beyond reproach, and these awards are a genuine reflection of every employee on our team.”

The County of Ventura Fleet Services division manages over 1,880 vehicles and heavy equipment, valued at over $70.5 million, completing more than 10,000 work orders annually while driving an average of 13 million miles each year. This dedicated team exemplifies the County’s strategic priorities of investing in sustainable infrastructure and renewable energy, ultimately preserving natural resources and serving the community’s diverse needs.

The Fleet Services team’s ongoing dedication and innovative strategies position Ventura County as a national model for sustainability and operational excellence.
