15th Annual Safe Boating Expo returns to Channel Islands Harbor

OXNARD, Calif. โ€“ The Channel Islands Harbor is proud to host the 15th Annual Safe Boating Expo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, at Harbor East Park, 3874 Murre Way, Oxnard, CA 93035.

This free, family-friendly event offers a unique opportunity to learn critical boating safety skills while enjoying a day packed with exciting activities and demonstrations. May 17th marks the first day of National Safe Boating Week, which runs from May 17-23.

This yearโ€™s theme, “Choose to Boat Safely,” emphasizes the importance of preparedness on the water. Attendees will experience a wide array of safety demonstrations including the proper use of fire extinguishers, LED safety-flares, life jackets, first aid procedures, safe kayaking practices, and scuba diving safety.

โ€œThe Safe Boating Expo is an important community event that reinforces the importance of safety on the water,โ€ said Michael Tripp, Ventura County Harbor Department Director. โ€œThe Harbor Department and our event partners remain committed to educating the public and promoting best practices that save lives. This expo is a great opportunity for boaters of all experience levels to learn, connect, and ensure theyโ€™re prepared for a safe season on the water.โ€

Visitors will have the chance to tour emergency response boats from the Ventura County Harbor Patrol, Ventura County Sheriffโ€™s Department, Ventura County Fire Department, Tow Boat U.S., and meet the brave first responders who use these vessels to perform critical maritime missions.

A highlight of the day will be the air, sea, and fire rescue demonstrations, taking place from 12:20 p.m. to 12:45 p.m., featuring the Ventura County Sheriffโ€™s Search & Rescue Team, Ventura County Harbor Patrol, Ventura County Fire, Oxnard Fire, the Ventura County Air Unit, and Gold Coast Ambulance.

Throughout the event, attendees can explore interactive booths and hands-on exhibits from numerous local and national agencies, including:
