Interim County Executive Officer Dr. Sevet Johnson has formally notified Governor Gavin Newsom of Supervisor Ramirez’s tragic passing. Per State Law addressing vacancies of elected County Supervisors during their terms, Supervisor Ramirez’s District 5 seat on the Board of Supervisors will be filled by an appointment from the Governor. Any registered voter residing in District 5, using the 2011 supervisorial district boundaries, is eligible to apply online through the Governor’s website at gov.ca.gov/appointments. There is no set timeframe for such appointment to be made by the Governor. The Governor’s appointee would serve as Supervisor until voters choose a Supervisor for District 5 in the November 2024 general election, using the 2021 supervisorial district boundaries.
The next meeting of the Board of Supervisors is scheduled for September 13th, 2022. The meeting will honor Supervisor Ramirez’s long legacy of service. Board of Supervisors District 5 staff can continue to be reached for any District 5 needs by calling (805) 654-2613. Board staff are available to address constituent concerns for District 5 and the entire Ventura County community. Currently, per County policy, Vice Chair Supervisor Matt LaVere is acting as Chair of the Board of Supervisors.
