Ventura, CA – The City of Camarillo recently surveyed residents with questions about the Camarillo Airport operated by the County of Ventura Department of Airports. The results of the survey were presented at the January 12, 2022 Camarillo City Council meeting. “We really appreciate the community input about the airport. The County of Ventura is committed to working with the City and community members to seek a collective vision for the best use of the airport,” said County Executive Officer Mike Powers.

“I am pleased our Director of Airports was able to attend the Council meeting last night to hear the presentation of the survey results firsthand. While the County manages operations at Camarillo Airport, we continue to recognize the City of Camarillo as the host City and strive to partner with them in every way possible,” said Ventura County Supervisor Kelly Long. “As a Camarillo resident, I especially appreciate this partnership and the airport’s efforts to be a good neighbor when it comes to noise and overall operations.”

The Department of Airports is working with Vector Airport Systems to develop a web-based platform offering sophisticated tools to dedicated airport staff and interested public regarding the flight operations at both Camarillo and Oxnard airports. This will enhance existing efforts to address noise concerns. Features in development include:

  • Provides reliable resources for pilots gathering information on local procedures
  • Offers residents and staff flight tracking with the ability to review past flights
  • Provides ability to file noise complaints directly from a map-based interface
  • Measures and tracks conformance with voluntary noise abatement procedures
  • Provides tools for airport staff to assist in educating pilots on local procedures

Roll out of the new technology is expected in Spring 2022.

The County is no longer asking the City of Camarillo to explore changes to the Joint Powers Agreement (JPA). The agreement was established in 1976 between the County of Ventura and City of Camarillo pertaining to Camarillo Airport Development and surrounding land use. “The County’s goal is to continue to work with the City to develop a strong partnership,” said Airport Director Keith Freitas.

Last year there were community concerns that Amazon would utilize the airport for cargo operations and other rumors of expansion. “There are no plans for scheduled airline service or cargo flight operations at the Camarillo Airport.” said Airports Director Keith Freitas.

Currently, Camarillo Airport services include general aviation, emergency medical flights, law enforcement, search and rescue and firefighting flights, flight training, personal travel, charter, light cargo and business travel. Ventura County owns and operates two public-use airports: Camarillo Airport and Oxnard Airport.
