Ventura, CA – The County of Ventura’s Sustainability Division has launched a new online hub to support local climate action, available at sustain.ventura.org. Community members and partners can now easily access sustainability resources and information about county progress towards meeting climate action goals and find information about local sustainability events and initiatives.
“Climate change is presenting challenges and opportunities to Ventura County,” said Chair of the Board Matt LaVere. “Our new Sustainability website provides our residents tools to directly engage with these issues by allowing them to participate in local climate action, social equity, and economic vitality efforts and learn about actions our Board has taken in support of a sustainable and resilient future.”
Ventura County businesses, residents, agency partners, and County employees can find tailored information for their interests. The website is continually updated to feature progress on the County’s Community Climate Action Plan, adopted in 2020. Other key initiatives administered by the Sustainability Division are easily accessible on the new website, including the Ventura County Regional Energy Alliance and Tri-County Regional Energy Network.
“We are proud of the significant advancements our team has made, in collaboration with local partners, towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions and engaging residents both online and in person,” said County Sustainability Officer Alejandra Tellez. “Planning for a climate-ready future requires an all-hands-on-deck approach. We are excited to share this new resource with our community to make sustainable actions more accessible for all community members.”
The County Executive Office’s Sustainability Division, launched in 2019, has contributed to building a more resilient Ventura County and the greater Tri-County region by creating residential energy efficiency programs for single and multifamily units. The team has hosted over 140 trainings for contractors and other building professionals on building performance totaling over 2,600 attendees and educates community members on electric vehicle ownership.
In support of efforts around building a sustainable economy and ecological preservation, the Division has certified 52 green businesses and earlier this year formed the Ventura County Tree Coalition, a network of nonprofits, municipal agencies, land trusts, community organizations, and other groups dedicated to preserving and enhancing Ventura County’s tree canopy.
The Sustainability Division aims to establish Ventura County, its communities, and neighboring regions as leaders in sustainable initiatives that support sensible growth, a healthy environment and economy, enhanced quality of life, inclusion, and equity, and greater self-reliance for the region.
